Purple K FIRE EXTINGUISHER INFORMATION

Purple-K agent (also known as PKP) is one of the most effective of the dry chemicals against Class B fires. It is a potassium bicarbonate based dry chemical containing chemical additives, and is produced by an exclusive chemical process. The resultant agent is free flowing, water repellent, non-abrasive and, when used as a fire suppressing agent, will produce no toxic effects. Purple-K agent is purple in color to differentiate it from the other dry chemical agents.

It is the second most effective dry chemical in fighting class B (flammable liquid) fires after Monnex (potassium allophanate), and can be used against some energized electrical equipment fires (Class C fires). It has about 4–5 times more effectiveness against class B fires than carbon dioxide, and more than twice that of sodium bicarbonate.

Post-fire cleanup of Purple-K agent can be readily accomplished using a vacuum cleaner or a broom and dust pan.

Application

Purple-K dry chemical agent may be used to combat fires in flammable liquids, gases, and greases (Class B) including such fires when involved with energized electrical equipment (Class C). Because of its excellent fire fighting effectiveness, Purple-K agent is widely used in the petroleum industry and in other areas where the fire risk is high.

Purple-K agent is available in hand portable and wheeled extinguishers, large stationary units, mobile units, and various fixed nozzle piped systems.
